Is par bhi jo na khaule... Khoon nahi woh paani hain...
Jo Desh ke Kaam na aaye... woh bekaar jawaani hain...
I never thought lines with the right kind of desired impact would have to be so straight and simple and striking you on the face... These lines... which are the opening sentences of the movie
RANG DE BASANTI
a movie that sends waves of passion, zeal to make living a pleasure... to make the place we live in harmonious... a movie that sends the message home that it need not be a marathon effort to fight against atrocities... five people can make a difference... five youngsters in their 30s... the power of the characters potrayed by Aamir, Sid, Atul, Kunal and Karman!... it could never be any better than the way it is!
and now the movie is, as they say, thrown out of the Oscars! hmmm... well seems logical enough... but who do we blame - The Indians or The Rest of the World?!
Well let's see... whom we need to blame?
Why the Indians? We are proud the movie was made! But have we made sure that the country has learnt lessons? Have we made sure that there is a decrease in the levels of Red tapism & Corruption! Have we instilled the fear in our bureaucrats, diplomats and above all the well-guarded politicians! Then what good is a movie which does not evoke the need in the common man to change things around him... why do we always wait for someone else to take control of situations, whom we call the Mr. Right?! why are we so frightened and more inclined towards our selfish needs... we have not yet started respecting our fellow country men for their worth... but we respect people... and these people, they have money, they have power and they have control, so this boils down to the fact that we are corrupt and unless we help ourselves, we cannot come out of this gruesome situation.
Now, why the Rest of the World? They say a word of appreciation makes a person's day... this normally remains a saying on paper which like the other proverbs is meant for preaching alone and not practising. The plot appeals to the world's second largest populated country... and to many other individuals of foriegn nationalities and which country, tell me has the guts to claim that it is transparent in governance and that its leaders are not at all corrupt! The plot has taken one of the many examples, the MIG aircrafts which are a measure of the military strength which again is one of the very important factors in declaring a country as a developed nation! The AMPAS is a respected establishment but even this association has given into discrimination... the very academy which has awarded Crash the best picture award.
